Description

Buying guide

Every July, the Badwater® 135 brings together 100 men and women from around the world to run across Death Valley and climb three mountain ranges to the summit of Mt. Whitney. It is widely considered the toughest running race in the world. This year, Mount to Coast created the C135, a special edition of the C1 designed to tackle the challenge of the Badwater® 135.

Ultralight, ultra-focused | The C135 features a dual-layer midsole, combining a generous layer of durable CircleCELL foam with a stable rubberized EVA bottom layer. An ultralight, breathable, and quick-drying upper is designed to excel in the harsh conditions of Death Valley in July. The result is a shoe offering 42 mm of responsive, comfortable cushioning, weighing just 262 g.

Visible at Night | The Badwater® 135 spans 135 miles with a 45-hour time limit. With a late-night start, runners are guaranteed to run through at least one night on desert roads. Safety is paramount, and athletes are required to make themselves visible; that’s why the C135 features a highly reflective coating on the midsole to improve visibility for safer running after sunset.

Long-lasting comfort | The TUNEDFIT dual lacing system offers a separately adjustable fit for the forefoot and midfoot. Mount to Coast knows that, when pushing the limits of distance, feet can swell and change shape—especially during a race with temperature fluctuations as extreme as the Badwater® 135. Having a shoe that can adapt to these changes in real time can mean the difference between mild discomfort and injury.

Key Features of the Mount to Coast C135 Badwater

  • Ultralight, breathable, and quick-drying mesh fabric, designed for the toughest conditions on the Badwater 135 course.
  • Reflective coating on the midsole improves visibility for safer running after dark.
  • Dual-layer midsole: the upper layer of CircleCELL foam delivers uncompromising performance, made from sustainable materials, while the lower rubber layer provides support and stability.
  • TUNEDFIT dual-lacing system for independent lace adjustment.
  • Wider base and higher side reinforcements for better stability during long runs.
