The MTB knee pads, a protective role
The MTB knee pad, such as the full face MTB helmet and integral protection , is an equipment that must be part of the good rider's outfit that whose practice includes enduro, dirt, DH or freeride. The knee pad is there to protect you from a simple blow in the handlebars or from a big fall.
Depending on the models, the knee pad allows you to protect only the knees, or knees and shins for long versions.
As with MTB integral protections, knee pads often use the same design process. They are made of microfibres and allow the skin to breathe while evacuating sweat.
The protection is usually made of thermoformed plastic or thick foam.
Depending on the thickness of the MTB knee pad (which varies according to the models and the brands), it can be worn under MTB pants or cycling shorts.
MTB knee pad, a wide choice
To choose a MTB knee pad, select a one model between the version that protect the knee only or the combined version which protects the knee and shin.
Models that just wrap the knee are lightweight and very comfortable knee pads. They don't interfere with pedaling. They are therefore much used by enduro or downhill bikers who want products providing them a maximum freedom of movement.
Models that combine knee and shin pads offer maximum protection. They prevent pain from settling in during large pedal returns or stone projections. However, some drivers will find them less comfortable than simple knee pad models.
