Between the Tikkina at €25 and the Swift RL at 1200 lumens, the Petzl range is dizzying. Batteries or rechargeable CORE battery, wide or mixed beam, red or RGB lighting, IPX4 or IP67 waterproof rating: it all depends on what you plan to use it for. We reviewed ten headlamps, ranked by increasing power, to help you find the one that suits you, whether you run, bivouac, hunt, or ski at night.

We start this comparison with the simplest: the Petzl Tikkina, which plays the “it works, period” card. With 300 lumens for 92 grams, it slips into your pocket without you noticing (that’s actually the goal). Its field of use is close proximity: wide and even beam, ideal for reading inside the tent or moving around the campsite. One button toggles between the three levels (maximum run time, standard, maximum power). The mount easily tilts and also allows you to wear it around your neck. The recycled strap is removable and washable, handy after a sweaty weekend. Three AAA batteries are provided, and the rechargeable CORE battery is compatible... but sold separately, of course.
On the frank side: the wide beam won't reach far, and the IPX4 withstands rain, no more. You can mount it on a helmet or bike, but it’s not certified for road use.
Petzl Tikka: 350 lm, the compact reliable classic that’s proven itself
| Characteristics | Details |

You step it up a notch after the Tikkina with the Petzl Tikka, a reliable classic shining for 25 years. With 350 lumens, you gain 50 lumens over its little sister: enough to comfortably see your feet, not to scan the valley (the beam is wide, not far-reaching). A single button manages the three white light levels and the red light, fixed or blinking, very useful at camp so you don’t dazzle your neighbor. For 94 grams, you also get the LOCK function to avoid switch-ons in your bag, a phosphorescent reflector to find it in the dark, and a pouch that turns it into a lantern. It comes with three AAA batteries, perfect for running, but plan spares or the CORE battery (sold separately) if you go out often. And again, the IPX4 protects it from rain, not from a dip.
Petzl Swift LT: 380 lm, the rechargeable featherweight that fits everywhere
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Lamp type | Ultra-compact rechargeable LED headlamp |
| Lighting power | Up to 380 lumens |
| Battery life | N/A |
| Charging time | N/A |
| Power supply | Rechargeable lithium-ion battery 880 mAh (3.7 V / 3.27 Wh, USB-C) |
| Water resistance | IPX4 (rain resistant) |
| Weight | 43 g |

We stay in the compact range with the Petzl Swift LT: 380 lumens, that's 30 more than the Tikka, for only 43 g (basically you forget it's on your head). Its wide and even beam lights well at your feet or within arm’s reach, with three white levels and a fixed or flashing red light so you don’t blind your neighbor at the camp. The ultra-thin, recycled and washable headband includes a reflective wire. That’s partly what makes this Swift LT so lightweight. For charging, no batteries here, it’s USB-C with an 880 mAh battery. Be careful though, the cable isn’t included, but nowadays USB-C cables are everywhere.
Petzl Tikka Core: 450 lm, the rechargeable Tikka that keeps a plan B
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Lamp type | Compact rechargeable LED headlamp |
| Lighting power | 450 lumens |
| Battery life | N/A |
| Charging time | 3h30 |
| Power supply | Rechargeable CORE 1250 mAh battery (USB-C) or 3 AAA/LR03 batteries |
| Water resistance | IPX4 (weather resistant) |
| Weight | 84 g |

And again a Tikka, the one you know, but rechargeable, and going from 350 to 450 lumens (enough to see clearly without pulling out the heavy artillery). It only weighs 84 g, so it slips easily into a jacket pocket. Its wide and even beam is made for close range: feet, stove, map. To see far, it’s not a champion yet, but 450 lumens is starting to be really decent for running. Its real strength is the Hybrid Concept: CORE 1250 mAh USB-C battery (3.5h charging), or 3 AAA batteries if it dies in the middle of camp. Petzl claims it’s equivalent to 900 batteries in lifespan, we believe it. Downsides: the cable isn’t included. Alongside, it has a single button, a red light, a Lock function and a phosphorescent reflector to find it in the dark.
Petzl Actik: 450 lm, the versatile battery-powered headlamp that keeps rechargeable as an option
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Lamp type | 450 lumen LED headlamp with red lighting |
| Lighting power | Up to 450 lumens |
| Battery life | N/A |
| Charging time | N/A |
| Power supply | 3 AAA/LR03 batteries (included) or rechargeable CORE battery (compatible, not included) |
| Water resistance | IPX4 (weather resistant) |
| Weight | 98 g |

|
After the Tikka Core, we stick at 450 lumens, but change philosophy with the Petzl Actik: three AAA batteries are included, and you're ready to go. For 98 grams, it offers a wide or mixed beam, three levels of white light and a fixed or flashing red light, useful not to blind your friends at camp. One button only, and a LOCK function so it doesn’t turn on by itself at the bottom of your bag. Its asset: the HYBRID CONCEPT, which accepts the CORE battery (sold separately, budget accordingly). Honesty: battery life isn’t specified here, IPX4 tolerates rain but not swimming, and it’s not certified for road use. In short, it’s the headlamp for running, trekking, or alpine outings for those who want to start with batteries, even if they switch to rechargeable later.
Petzl Aria 1R RGB: 475 lm, the chameleon headlamp for hides and pond edges
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Type of lamp | Rechargeable RGB LED headlamp |
| Lighting power | 475 lumens |
| Autonomy | N/A |
| Charging time | 3 h 30 |
| Power supply | Rechargeable CORE 1250 mAh battery (3.6 V / 4.5 Wh) or 3 AAA/LR03 batteries (alkaline, lithium or rechargeable Ni-MH) |
| Water resistance | IP67 (immersion up to 1 m for 30 min) |
| Weight | 94 g |
| Options |
|
Change the atmosphere with the Aria 1R RGB: here, you’re not looking to light as far as possible, but above all not to be spotted. Its 475 lumens in white are already comfortable, but the real point is the red, green and blue. Red preserves night vision, green helps reading a map, and blue is used to spot blood traces or see in water without scaring fish (carp will appreciate this). Practically, a single button manages everything, and the LOCK function prevents it from turning on at the bottom of your bag. It weighs 94 g, with a USB-C rechargeable CORE battery (cable not included, yes, again). A nice Plan B: it also accepts 3 AAA batteries.
Petzl Nao LT: 600 lm, the running headlamp that remembers the back
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Type of lamp | Rechargeable LED headlamp |
| Lighting power | Up to 600 lumens |
| Autonomy | 2h in max power mode (600 lumens) |
| Charging time | 3h30 |
| Power supply | Rechargeable CORE 1250 mAh battery (USB-C) or 3 AAA/LR03 batteries |
| Water resistance | IPX4 (weather resistant) |
| Weight | 90 g |
| Options |
|
Now the Petzl Nao LT: probably the best for running. Its 90 grams are forgotten quickly, especially since the CORE battery is placed at the back to balance the weight on your head (no more lamp bouncing with every step). The ultra-thin headband is washable and provided with a reflective thread, and the flashing red light at the back signals you when night falls. It will also light up quite strongly (600 lumens), but these only last 2 hours in MAX POWER, which can be short for a long outing (you’ll have to juggle with STANDARD and MAX BURN TIME modes).
Petzl Actik Core: 625 lm, the versatile hybrid that won’t let you down
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Type of lamp | Rechargeable LED headlamp |
| Light power | 625 lumens |
| Battery life | N/A |
| Charging time | 3h30 |
| Power supply | CORE 1250 mAh rechargeable battery (USB-C) or 3 AAA/LR03 batteries |
| Water resistance | IPX4 (weather resistant) |
| Weight | 88 g |

We’re back on an Actik, but Core this time, which takes us even higher on the lumen scale. The Actik Core shows 625 lumens. And for those wondering, no, it’s not just an Actik with a Core battery. It stays much brighter than its little sister that operates on batteries. It is powered by a 1250 mAh CORE battery rechargeable via USB-C (3h30 on the clock, cable not provided, so you’ll have to rummage through the drawer). But in case of dead battery, three AAA batteries will do the job (not provided). On the light side, the wide or mixed beam lights both your feet and the trail, and the fixed or blinking red light avoids dazzling your surroundings.
Petzl Aria 2R RGB: 625 lm, the stealthy headlamp for blinds
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Type of lamp | Rechargeable waterproof RGB LED headlamp |
| Light power | 625 lumens |
| Battery life | N/A |
| Charging time | 3h30 |
| Power supply | CORE Li-ion 1250 mAh rechargeable battery (3.6 V / 4.5 Wh / USB-C) or 3 AAA/LR03 batteries |
| Water resistance | IP67 (immersion up to 1 m for 30 min) |
| Weight | 95 g |
| Options |
|
Same power as the Actik Core just before (625 lm), but here we’re completely changing the game: the Aria 2R RGB, like the 1R before it, is designed for hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation. Like its little sister, its secret weapon is the red, green, and blue lighting, fixed or flashing. Red preserves your night vision, green helps to read a map, blue is used to spot blood traces (or not scare the fish). Practically speaking, like the 1R RGB, it’s truly waterproof (it can handle immersion at 1 m for 30 minutes (IP67)). Like all Petzl lamps in this comparison, it accepts the CORE battery (supplied here) or 3 AAA batteries as backup. Ideal for fishermen, hunters... if you just want it for running unless you want to look like a Christmas tree, you can move on.
Petzl Swift RL: 1200 lm, the headlamp that adjusts its beam by itself
| Features | Details |
|---|---|
| Type of lamp | Ultra-powerful rechargeable LED headlamp |
| Light power | Up to 1200 lumens |
| Battery life | Minimum 7h at medium power with REACTIVE LIGHTING mode, guaranteed autonomy down to -20°C |
| Charging time | 5h |
| Power supply | 2250 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery (3.85 V / 8.47 Wh) USB-C |
| Water resistance | IPX4 (weather resistant) |
| Weight | 92 g |
| Options | - REACTIVE LIGHTING technology (automatic power adjustment depending on ambient light), - STANDARD LIGHTING mode, - Fixed or blinking red lighting, - Ultra-thin, modular and adjustable headband, - Removable comfort foam, - Reflective thread, - Detachable, washable and replaceable headband, - Ultra-light SHELL LT storage pouch, - LOCK function to prevent accidental activation, - 5-level battery state meter, - Near and far vision |
We finish at the top of the ranking with the Petzl Swift RL: 1200 lumens, almost double the 625 lm of our previous two, for only 92 g. It reaches up to 168 m, enough to anticipate a night ski descent or running. Its clever feature is the REACTIVE LIGHTING mode: a sensor measures ambient light and automatically adjusts power and beam, which saves battery life (7 h minimum guaranteed at medium power) and your gloved fingers. Battery life maintained down to -20 °C, two-part headband that stays in place, fixed or blinking red light: the spec sheet is well filled. There are some drawbacks, we again find IPX4, so weather resistant but not made for swimming, and 5 h USB-C charging. Finally, 1200 lumens isn’t really useful for finding your socks in the tent, so it’s perfect for good visibility, but don’t worry if you don’t want to spend that much — from 450 lumens you’ll already see well enough for running...
