Mako developed this wetsuit to meet the needs of the “true” swimmer. This product offers incredible freedom of movement and a very natural distribution of buoyancy. As a result, the full sensation of swimming is preserved.
After extensive testing, Mako chose to use Yamamoto #44 SCS Nano neoprene—the most flexible on the market—on the shoulders and underarms to take full advantage of its extreme flexibility. This neoprene also offers greater durability than Yamamoto #40 neoprene. Mako opted for Yamamoto #39 on the body for its lightweight properties (increased buoyancy).
The OWP wetsuit is certified by World Aquatics for open-water races (WA certification ref. MK261210).
- Neck, arms, and shoulders: 1 mm Yamamoto #44 SCS Nano and ultra-flexible jersey for total freedom of movement.
- Wrists: A snug fit minimizes water ingress while allowing for an ultra-fast transition.
- Body and thighs: 4 mm Yamamoto #39 SCS Nano (4.5 mm with the jersey).
- Zip: Invisible and reverse-facing to minimize water ingress and prevent “accidental” opening during the race.
- Calves, knees, and back: 3 mm Yamamoto #39 SCS Nano (3.5 mm with the jersey).
- Lycra inner lining on the torso and legs for greater comfort.
- Safety Tapes on high-stress areas of the arms and crotch.
