Road Pedal Cleats
Clipless pedals are always supplied with cleats. However, you will need to change them over a period of time as worn cleats will put you at risk of being stuck on the side of the road or in the worst case scenario will put you at risk of injury.Road Cycling Pedals are using large plastic Cleats. These Cleats are fixed to the Road Cycling Shoes with 3 bolts. Unlike MTB models, using metal cleats, Road Cleats are not designed for walking over long distances.
What Road Cleats do I need?
Cleats are not compatible between one brand to another.Shimano Pedals are using SPD SL Cleats, available in 3 color: Red, Blue and Yellow.
It is a color code: each model has a different amount of float (amount of lateral rotation). On each product description, you will find the degrees of float.
Look have developped their own clip-in Pedals. Look is also using a color code (Black, Grey, Red) but be carefull, Shimano and Look color code is different.
SpeedPlay pedals and cleats are slightly different: the mechanism is integrated within the cleat and not the pedal. The float adjustment is tunable.
