Full-suspension MTBs feature a front suspension and rear shock . On very uneven terrain, the double suspension will provide comfort and grip as well as improved stability.
The full-suspension mountain bike is the perfect fit for someone looking to have fun on the trails and/or perform on steep downhills. These bikes will bring a better output on technical trails because of the additionnal stability brought by the shock and will be capable to handle more constraints than a regular hardtail. Nevertheless, it is important to acknowledge the fact that the rear suspension won't be as efficient on uphills compared to a rigid frame due to the fact that the shock absorbs some of the energy produced while pedaling. In this case, a hardtail will be easier to pedal on since it's stiffer and lighter.
The rear shock increases both weight and price of the bike as well as the fun.
