Orbea, the emblematic brand of Spanish cycling, took root in the Basque Country in the 1930s.
The company has played a key role in the history of Spanish cycling, equipping a number of athletes and teams for both road and mountain biking. For 20 years, the mythical Euskatel-Euskadi has hosted some of the finest races in the world as the road climbed and turned orange. Today, Orbea still accompanies Euskatel-Euskadi in Continental Pro. When it comes to mountain biking, Orbea is not to be outdone, since the Spanish brand was at Julien Absalon's side during his Olympic title in Beijing in 2008, for example.
Today, Orbea offers a wide range of products to cover all types of cycling. In mountain biking, several models have proved their worth and enjoy a very good reputation; (Orbea Alma, Orbea Rise, Orbea Occam, Orbea Oiz). On the road and for Gravel, Orbea's headlight models are the best choice; Orbea Orca, & Orbea Terra. Finally, the brand also offers city bikes with the Kemen range of VAE electric bikes.
At first glance, Orbea Orca road bikes present a striking aesthetic, driven by a streamlined frame and discreetly integrated cable routing. This streamlined approach goes hand in hand with a concern for optimizing aerodynamics: the slender shapes, internal cable routing and choice of top-of-the-range materials give the bike an elegant silhouette. The carbon fibers used offer an excellent compromise between rigidity and lightness, which translates into efficient power transmission during acceleration or on hilly sections. Comfort is not neglected, however: the well-thought-out geometry of the chassis, the steering angle and the wheelbase ensure precise handling, while maintaining good posture over long distances. The finish, meanwhile, underlines the attention paid to the smallest details: the slim wheel arch, the shape of the seat stays and the seat post all contribute to a harmonious feel, both visually and on the ground.
The Orca range is available in several models, each designed to meet specific requirements and desires. Whether the drivetrain is mechanical or electronic, the same level of quality is found in the basic construction, with particular attention paid to the choice of components and overall ergonomics. Some models focus on the balance between comfort and lightness, while others are designed for pure performance, with more sophisticated groupsets and top-of-the-range wheels. Available options now include a majority of disc brakes, guaranteeing optimal control in all weathers, without detracting from the bike's overall aesthetic. This diversification testifies to our determination to offer a complete range of products to satisfy both cyclosportive enthusiasts and competitors looking for cutting-edge equipment. What's more, the ability to customize the color and certain components offers a unique experience, ensuring that every cyclist can adjust his or her frame to suit his or her preferences and riding style.
Beyond the aesthetics and variety of configurations, the Orca capitalizes on a series of technologies designed to enhance the riding experience. The monocoque frame, available in different grades of carbon, illustrates the desire to optimize the distribution of layers in order to reinforce rigidity in strategic places, while preserving a certain vertical elasticity. The partial absorption of vibrations, combined with a studied geometry, helps to ward off fatigue and maintain performance over long rides. The through-axle concept, now widely democratized, adds an extra dose of stability and precision to handling, especially when road conditions become more complex. In addition, the seatpost and seatstay shape have been designed to reconcile lateral rigidity and asperity filtering, which is particularly noticeable on rough roads. In each version, we can see the concern to harmonize each component to offer a complete riding experience: choice of an ergonomic cockpit, adaptations to handlebar width and selection of responsive wheels. Thanks to this combination of cutting-edge techniques, the Orbea Orca confirms its status as a versatile bike, dedicated to demanding enthusiasts who wish to combine aesthetics, comfort and performance.
The Orbea Occam is distinguished above all by a geometry that has been carefully designed to optimize stability on descents and efficiency on climbs. Its relatively open steering angle, combined with an extended reach, offers precise control in technical sections while avoiding a feeling of imbalance on steep terrain. The frame, available in both aluminum and carbon, features clean lines and a fluid design, with internal cable routing that reduces bulk and adds a touch of sobriety. On the trails, cushioning is provided by moderate travel, generally around 140 mm at the rear and 140 or 150 mm at the front depending on configuration, enabling the bike to strike a balance between comfort and performance. This approach aims to offer precise handling in tight corners, without sacrificing the ability to overcome larger obstacles. The engineers have also incorporated an articulation system that limits power loss when pedaling, while providing good traction on the roots and rocks common in the mountains.
With the Occam, the manufacturer has opted for versatility to meet the needs of a wide range of mountain bikers, from leisure riders to competitors. The technical solutions adopted are reflected in the choice of suspensions, often offered by well-known equipment manufacturers, and in the design of the frame itself. The rigidity of the frame has been carefully designed to limit twisting during relaunching, while maintaining the comfort essential for long rides. The clever placement of the rear shock absorber, accessible and protected, facilitates adjustment and maintenance. Particular attention has been paid to the finishing touches: the shape of the chainstays and the connection between the front and rear triangles bear witness to both aesthetic and functional care. Last but not least, there's usually room for a telescopic seatpost, now almost indispensable for quickly adjusting seat height in demanding sections.
Beyond the frame architecture, the Orbea Occam is available in a variety of versions to suit every rider's preferences. Entry-level models offer a sturdy, affordable configuration, while higher-end models feature lighter, higher-performance components, such as high-end suspension and a more responsive drivetrain. There are also variations in the frame materials used: aluminum, more affordable, is tough and easy to maintain, while carbon is lighter and more dynamic for those seeking a more responsive ride. For the front wheel, some versions opt for a larger fork to better absorb large bumps, while others opt for a more versatility-oriented choice. The range of available sizes also ensures satisfactory ergonomics for a wide range of morphologies. So every rider can opt for the model that best suits his or her style and playing field, whether it's loops on forest trails or more rugged mountain courses.
The Orbea Rise immediately catches the eye with its sleek design, more reminiscent of a classic mountain bike than a VTTAE. The frame, available in carbon or aluminum versions, cleverly conceals the assistance system and battery in the downtube. Cables are almost invisible, tucked away in well-designed internal passages, while carefully executed fittings reinforce the impression of aesthetic coherence. The sober finishes and the desire not to overload the visuals give a sensation of lightness at first glance. Both hilly trail and rough terrain enthusiasts will appreciate this design, which favors a more fluid ride focused on the essentials. The attention to detail, both in the welds and in the frame protection, underlines the care taken in designing the Rise.
The Orbea Rise's philosophy is based on light assistance, designed to preserve a natural pedaling feel. The relatively compact motor is distinguished by its ability to deliver progressive torque, avoiding the sudden bursts of boost that can destabilize the bike. This homogeneity translates into intuitive handling, which is appreciated when the gradient steepens or an obstacle stands in the way. Modular autonomy, thanks to secondary battery options, opens the door to long outings without the constraint of immediate recharging. The controls, discreetly positioned on the handlebars, allow you to fine-tune power delivery to suit your needs. This balance between sustained assistance and human effort makes the riding experience less intrusive, while ensuring sufficient energy to fly over demanding trails.
The Rise's geometry is designed to be versatile, offering an interesting compromise between stability on descents and agility in tight turns. The relatively short chainstays help to link direction changes with ease, while the steering angle maintains composure on steep slopes. The ergonomic cockpit lends itself to precise control, whether you're into long rides or more technical sessions. Overall weight remains measured for a VTTAE, further reinforcing this impression of maneuverability. The components, selected for their durability and reliability, blend into the overall package without affecting balance. Peripherals such as the telescopic seatpost or the fork adapted to off-road use confirm the Rise's sporty orientation, while taking into account the comfort required for extended outings.
Orbea offers the Rise in a range of configurations to meet the varied needs of users. The SL version, for example, favors lightness and more moderate assistance, for those who wish to retain a feel very close to that of a classic mountain bike. The more powerful models offer enhanced torque and extended battery capacity, ideal for long-distance mountain biking. Within this range, the Rise LT stands out for its extra travel, designed to absorb uneven terrain more effectively and provide a greater sense of security in the most committed sections. Transmissions also evolve from a versatile set-up to more sophisticated groupsets, each meeting specific needs. This diversity of choice illustrates the brand's desire to satisfy both the casual rider and the extreme trail enthusiast, while remaining true to the visual sobriety and meticulous approach that characterize the Rise. For more information, see our detailed presentation of the Orbea Rise range.
The Orbea Oiz is a bike designed to meet the high demands of the cross-country discipline, where lightness and pedaling efficiency are crucial. Its frame, available in carbon or aluminum depending on the version, focuses on optimum performance. The precise positioning of the rear suspension pivot points is designed to reduce energy loss during relaunching, enabling the rider to maintain a fluid cadence. This is particularly relevant on the steep, technical climbs that characterize many XC courses. The engineers paid meticulous attention to the frame's lateral rigidity, to ensure a stable and lively pedaling feel. As a result, the Oiz is a reliable ally for those looking to rack up the miles while enjoying responsive handling.
Visually, the Oiz range has a discreet design, favoring straight lines and a resolutely modern front triangle. Carbon frames benefit from a manufacturing process that aims for quality, with layers of fiber carefully arranged to reinforce the most stressed areas. Aluminum versions, for their part, retain a similar geometry and benefit from a reassuring robustness for those who prefer to bet on solidity. As for the shock absorber, its integrated, protected position contributes to its sleek aesthetics, while facilitating maintenance. Cable routing is designed to minimize friction and resist mud splashes. The result is a bike where form marries function, avoiding excessive frills.
The Oiz family is not limited to a single iteration: different configurations are offered to meet the varied needs of mountain bikers. Some models feature a 100 mm rear suspension, ideal for competition, while others opt for slightly longer travel, sometimes referred to as "downcountry". This diversity of variants means you can adjust the level of comfort and control to suit your riding style. Drivetrains can range from high-end single-plate to more accessible options, making cross-country performance affordable to a wide audience. From simple sport touring to ultra-marathons, these variants offer a compromise between lightness, comfort and the ability to engage slightly more technical descents.
Thanks to updated geometry for 2025, the Oiz offers a stable, precise ride, whether you're a fan of technical circuits or long outings in the great outdoors. The steering angle and length of the front triangle have been subtly revised to gain confidence in fast sections, while retaining the agility sought after when climbing. Through-axles and increased frame rigidity enhance responsiveness: the bike stays on the line through tight turns, and recovers efficiently from any obstacle. Even if the choice of a long-travel suspension system isn't everyone's priority, the Oiz range offers solutions that prove useful for avoiding sudden impacts on rough trails. The end result is a versatile mountain bike that places a premium on efficiency without straying from its resolutely cross-country DNA.
The Orbea Alma is distinguished above all by its sober silhouette, marked by taut lines and speed-oriented geometry. Without succumbing to excess, this cross-country mountain bike has a discreet elegance that naturally catches the eye. Its frame, made of carbon or aluminum depending on the version, illustrates the particular attention paid to finish. The colors chosen are harmoniously distributed, while the quality of the assemblies underlines the meticulous work carried out on this range. The overall focus remains on lightness and responsiveness, two essential criteria for competitive mountain biking as well as for sportier outings. This quest for balance gives rise to an impression of fluidity, in both visual design and aesthetic choices, without sacrificing the robustness required for demanding terrain.
The Orbea Alma's design focuses on rigidity and precise handling. Every detail of the frame, from the top tube to the bottom bracket area and the shape of the chainstays, contributes to efficient power transmission. The carbon used on certain models benefits from advanced engineering processes that reduce vibrations, while maintaining an excellent level of responsiveness. The aluminum versions are not to be outdone, thanks to specific shaping work that gives them a responsive feel for cross-country riding. This technological approach remains measured: rather than multiplying trendy innovations, Orbea has concentrated on reliable and proven solutions, in order to offer a bike that is coherent, responsive and adapted to the demands of the discipline.
To suit everyone's tastes and expectations, the Alma is available in several configurations, from models dedicated to pure competition to more affordable variants. Carbon versions include the M-LTD, M-Team, M-Pro and M10, equipped with high-end drivetrains and lightweight components ideal for optimizing climbing performance and precision in technical sections. Those looking for a good compromise between performance and budget can turn to the M20, M30 or M50 models, which retain a carbon frame with more balanced equipment. Finally, Orbea also offers aluminum versions, such as the H20, H30 and H50, designed to offer flawless reliability at a more affordable price. This variety means there's an Alma for everyone, whether you're aiming for competition or simply want a dynamic bike for your regular outings.
Once on the trails, the Orbea Alma reveals a nervous temperament that's noticeable from the very first pedal stroke. The frame's geometry, designed for cross-country use, facilitates acceleration and lends a noticeable liveliness to corner exits and short sprints. The rear triangle is shaped to absorb some of the impact of the terrain, contributing to comfort without compromising the rigidity required for pedaling. Downhill, the Alma strikes a good balance between reassuring stability and sufficient maneuverability to negotiate technical passages. This versatility is appreciated when tackling a wide range of routes, from rolling to hilly, and allows you to take full advantage of the bike's dynamic qualities, whatever the rider's level and objectives.
First contact with the Orbea Terra reveals a bike designed to adapt to a multitude of contexts. Designed to perform on asphalt as well as on trails, this model is part of the gravel bike boom, capable of combining road performance with off-road ruggedness. Its chassis has been designed to accommodate large-section tires, while maintaining a lively, responsive ride as soon as the road becomes smoother. This concept of versatility allows you to vary your itineraries, moving easily from a stony path to a long cycle track. What's more, the steering system favors stability, boosting rider confidence when negotiating uneven terrain. Added to this is greater compatibility with different wheel and tire configurations, to meet everyone's requirements and adapt to sometimes unpredictable conditions.
.The Terra range is available in several versions, to suit a wide range of preferences and budgets. Lovers of lightness and performance will be attracted to carbon frames, which prioritize vibration absorption and lateral rigidity, without sacrificing comfort over long distances. This meticulous design is particularly attractive to demanding cyclists looking for a bike that responds to every pedal stroke. The aluminum versions, on the other hand, are aimed more at those who want a reliable, affordable platform. Sturdy, they offer excellent value for money, while retaining the sleek lines characteristic of the Terra series. The entire range also offers a variety of drivetrains and braking systems, including hydraulic ones, so you can customize your bike to suit your preferences and riding style.
Beyond the simple choice of materials, Orbea has designed the Terra series to promote comfort over long rides, without curbing the cyclist's sporting enthusiasm. The slightly higher head tube than on a traditional road bike relieves strain on the neck and lower back, preventing unnecessary tension on long rides. The wheelbase, neither too short nor too long, lends a sense of stability on loose terrain or gravel paths, while retaining sufficient agility to relaunch with ease on the road. This versatile geometry favors a balanced stance, able to handle sudden changes of pace or variable conditions. The chainstays, meanwhile, have been designed to filter vibrations from the ground, preserving a healthy dose of comfort when the miles start to weigh.
.The finishes and overall engineering of the Terra range underline a commitment to designing bikes that are durable and practical for everyday use. Internal cable routing effectively protects the drivetrain from dust, moisture or any other external aggression, while providing a sleek aesthetic. Multiple mounting points on the frame allow for the installation of mudguards, luggage racks or panniers, easily transforming this bike into a travel companion or versatile utility vehicle. The choice of materials is also in line with this approach to reliability, enabling Terra to withstand the repeated mechanical stresses encountered on the road or trail. In short, the meticulous architecture and robust design of these models testify to a desire to offer a durable machine, ready to follow the cyclist on all his adventures, whether near or far.
Orbea was born in the Basque Country, specifically in Mallabia, a few kilometers away from Bilbao. The company still manufactures some of the bicycles there. They also invested in a factory in Portugal. Since 2015, Orbea no longer manufactures bicycles in China, and all the production is now divided between Spain and Portugal.
