The basic structure of training on a gravel bike is the same as on any other type of bike. The components are: the chain, the rear cogs (cassette), and the crankset with the chainring. The drivetrain is the heart of your bike, where the power from your legs is transferred to the rear wheel so you can move forward. The requirements vary depending on your needs, riding style, and, most importantly, the technology.
A fundamental part of your drivetrain is the crankset and the chainring where the chain runs. The question here is whether you choose a version with a single chainring or a double chainring. Ten years ago, SRAM launched the first single-chainring drivetrain. With a single chainring, the distances between the teeth are alternately larger and smaller, while with two chainrings, the distance between the teeth remains the same. On a gravel bike, a single chainring can be an advantage because it is more robust, and the chain is less likely to jump off the cog. The downside, however, is that gear ratios can sometimes become more limited on steep sections.
