The Birth of Rocky Mountain

In Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada), in 1978, employees of a bike shop modified bikes by equipping them with wide tires and thumb-operated gear shifters.

Two years later, they imported the mountain bike version created in 1979 by Tom Ritchey, who had launched the first mass production of a true all-terrain bike. They modified this bike to tackle the trails of the Rocky Mountains that dominate British Columbia and founded their company, **Rocky Mountain Bicycles**, in Vancouver in 1981.

In 1982, they launched their first bike, the Sherpa.

The Development of Rocky Mountain in Mountain Biking

The company developed its reputation based on the quality of its bikes, as evidenced by its slogan "Total Commitment, No Compromise." Several of its bikes were named Bike of the Year by specialized magazines such as Velo Vert or VTT Magazine.

In 1998, Rocky Mountain launched the first "Freeride" bike, the "Pipeline." Freeride is a style of mountain biking in very rugged terrain with off-trail descents...
The company was the first to sponsor a professional freeride team and won the first Red Bull Rampage competition with Wade Simmons (on the Slayer).

In 2009, the "Altitude," the first carbon bike from Rocky Mountain, was launched. By the late 1990s, sales took off, and the brand became international.
Still based in Vancouver, Rocky Mountain continues to design and develop its mountain bikes with the same commitment to quality that contributed to its renown. Its wide range of models caters to cycling enthusiasts on rough terrain, in the mountains, as well as those who enjoy trail rides...
