I'm Adèle, I have been working at Alltricks for almost 4 years, passionate and an enduro rider, I tested for you the new Bluegrass Venture Protective Vest in real conditions during training and then in a race at the Enduro du Vélo Vert Festival, and the conclusion is pretty clear, I adopted it!
In enduro as in all-mountain, the question often comes up before leaving: prioritize protection or practicality? Riding with a back protector gives a real feeling of security but sometimes limits the gear you take, whereas a backpack or hydration pack allows you to carry more gear at the cost of extra weight and unwanted movements on descents.
The Bluegrass Venture specifically aims to eliminate this compromise by combining both uses in one product. The back protector is directly integrated into a fitted vest that also allows you to carry the essentials for a day of riding.

On the trail, impressive support
Tested on the special stages and long transfers of the Vélo Vert Festival, the Venture stands out above all for its support.
It's probably what surprised me the most during the first descents. You don't get that sensation of a bag moving or shifting on rough sections. Everything stays close to the body, stable and perfectly in place.
In fast or technical sections, the vest naturally follows your movements without causing discomfort. After a few minutes, you almost forget it's there, which is ultimately the best compliment you can give this type of product.
The vest also remains comfortable during pedaling phases. The materials breathe well and the fitted cut limits chafing. On a full day of riding, I never felt the need to adjust it.
Well-thought-out storage for committed rides
The Bluegrass Venture goes straight to the essentials while offering enough space to carry what you need.
On my side, I was able to carry an inner tube in the large rear pocket. The front pockets easily held a multi-tool, tire levers, and several energy bars. A small zippered pocket allows you to secure your keys or a valuable item, while a horizontal rear pocket is handy for storing a light jacket.
The organization is simple but effective. Everything remains accessible and especially very stable thanks to load distribution as close to the body as possible.
Until now, I usually rode with a classic back protector combined with a small hydration pack. With the Venture, I completely abandoned that setup.
Protection and maintenance, the details that make the difference
Beyond its practical aspect, the Venture remains above all a protective piece of equipment.
The back protector inspires confidence with serious coverage of the back and a protection level comparable to a classic back protector. At no point did I feel like I was sacrificing safety for comfort or practicality.
I also particularly appreciated the ease of maintenance. The protective plates can be quickly removed to wash the textile structure of the vest. A real plus for equipment intended to be worn regularly, especially after muddy rides or summer days.
Points to improve
Even if the review is very positive, some elements are worth mentioning.
The first concerns secure storage. Only one small pocket has a zipper closure, which limits options for storing certain valuable items like car keys or a wallet.
The second concerns heat. Despite a breathable design, the Venture remains a fully covering protective vest.
These are not deal-breaking flaws, but rather points to consider depending on your practice and riding conditions.
Who is the Bluegrass Venture for?
The Venture is mainly aimed at regular enduro and all-mountain riders who want to lighten their gear without giving up protection.
It will suit especially those who ride with a small backpack only to carry a few tools, water, and a jacket. In this case, the gain in comfort and stability is immediately noticeable.
Verdict
The Bluegrass Venture offers a real alternative to the back protector + backpack duo.
Its main strength is its ability to make you forget that you are wearing both protection and a hydration system. The support is excellent, the comfort is there, and the organization is well thought out enough to cover the needs of most enduro rides.
I especially appreciated its stability on descents as well as the ease of removing the protective plates for cleaning.
Sure, it lacks a few secure compartments and can feel warm on hot summer days, but these drawbacks are largely outweighed by its qualities in the field.
After several weeks of testing in training and racing, it’s hard to go back to a more classic setup. The Bluegrass Venture will now accompany me on my enduro rides as well as on my bike park days.
