The gravel market keeps evolving, and for 2026, Orbea hits hard with the new version of its famous Terra. While the model was already known as a formidable "all-rounder," the 2026 edition of the Orbea Terra pushes the limits with well-thought-out evolutions. Notably, there is a slightly longer wheelbase for better stability at high speed on descents, redesigned modularity at the cockpit, and the integration of a "glove compartment" (the famous Lockr compartment in the down tube) enlarged by 35% to ease carrying without spoiling the lines.
Within this range, the Terra Race stands out by its radical DNA. Forget the bucolic ride: this version is built for pure performance and the stopwatch. With a lightweight carbon frame, an aggressive geometry focused on aerodynamics and power transmission, the Terra Race is designed to turn every watt into speed. It directly targets competitors and fans of fast gravel.
In search of the perfect compromise between efficiency and endurance, Paul, Category Manager at Alltricks, put this Terra Race 2026 through its paces throughout its preparation phase, before lining it up on the dusty and demanding trails of the Traka 2026 near Girona. Here is his verdict after 700 km at very high intensity.

Test Conditions
This test was carried out over a total distance of about 700 km, allowing the machine to be tested in very varied conditions. The route was divided between training sessions in Île-de-France with a rather flat profile on damp terrain, near Marseille on steeper, rockier paths, and in the Girona region for La Traka, with much more rugged profiles, on dry and dusty ground. The division was made between paved roads, forest tracks, and DFCI paths. The bike was equipped with a light and competition-focused setup: two bottles and a top tube bag.

On-road behavior
On asphalt: A true road bike temperament
From the very first pedal strokes on the road, the observation is clear: this gravel bike is almost a road bike fitted with big tires. The efficiency is simply incredible, as long as you ride with a tire featuring a central tread adapted to the road like the Panaracers I chose. It's a real rocket. The high-profile wheels are easy to handle and then offer excellent inertia to maintain high speed on flat terrain.
Performance
On rolling paths: Like on rails
It is on forest tracks and smooth gravel that the Terra Race fully exploits its potential. You get the striking impression of being on the road with a road bike, reaching nearly the same speeds. The bike gives a true feeling of riding on rails. Comfort-wise, you really feel the "Race" DNA of the frame: it’s not necessarily designed for absolute comfort, but vibration filtration remains very good and is never unpleasant over long stretches. For cyclists seeking more suppleness, you still have the option to mount the maximum tire section in 45 mm.

On technical terrain: Agility and limits
When the terrain gets more demanding (singles, mud, rocks), typical of certain areas of La Traka, the bike performs honorably. However, it should be noted that the tall wheels are not always easy to maneuver when there is wind resistance on a rocky open climb. In terms of traction, Paul experienced some loss of grip and slipping on very steep sections heavily loaded with gravel and rocks. This phenomenon should be qualified: with a light weight and slightly overinflated 40 mm tires, the grip was reduced. (Note: the absence of major shocks during this test did not allow for evaluating the maximum tolerance of the frame on this point).
Handling
Mobility & Grip
Uphill & acceleration: Responsive and climber
Although Paul rarely gets out of the saddle on the trails, the behavior on the road is telling: during accelerations, the Terra Race reacts almost like a pure road bike. The SRAM Rival XPLR E1 drivetrain is a major asset. With its 40-tooth single chainring and its brand new 13-speed cassette (10-46), it allows you to climb almost all hills, even at the end of a race with fatigue. For those riding on routes with little elevation or who generate a lot of power, it will be entirely wise to fit a larger chainring.
