| Frame | 12-inch aluminum with reinforcements |
| Weight | 5.8 kg |
| Brake | No (reinforced rear disc brake mount and 6-hole disc compatible hub - brake not installed) |
If you’re looking for a balance bike that does more than just the bare minimum, the Scamp MiniFox 12 deserves your attention. A French brand designed on home soil (we admit, it’s an Alltricks in-house brand), we immediately sought to offer a clear positioning: to provide 2-4 year olds with something more complete than the simple pedal-less scooter that most balance bikes on the market are.
What really sets it apart is first its aluminum frame, whereas many competitors at this price rely on steel. The result: 5.8 kg on the scale, which is fair for the segment, even if your 2-year-old may not thank you for reminding them of it when they carry it for five meters.
The wheels are also reinforced aluminum, shod with 12 x 2.25 tires that offer good ground grip without turning every garden lap into a polar expedition.
Where we feel our MiniFox really gets a significant edge over the competition is with its pegs mounted at the bottom bracket area. Removable, they allow your little aspiring rider to work on their balance differently, or even try some first tricks (yes, at 3 years old, it’s already starting).
Finally, we integrated the possibility to add a rear disc brake on this MiniFox. For reasons of purchase cost and because many 4-year-old riders won’t need brakes, they are not installed by default. But the frame is equipped with a reinforced rear disc brake mount and a 6-hole disc compatible hub, so you can plan to add one separately if you want a real braking system, which is far from trivial for those first curb descents.

Ideal for young fans of MTB, the Berg Biky Cross is the perfect balance bike to start the adventure. Besides, it looks the part, you could almost mistake its fork for the latest RockShox Boxxer. Designed for 3-5 years old, it combines a lightweight magnesium frame with an aluminum fork, inspired by the best MTB 2026. Its robust design without brakes, with a steering angle limiter, ensures safety and ease of use. Perfect for varied terrains, it prepares kids for the world of the best MTB with style and comfort. That said, we still regret that there is no brake and especially unlike many other balance bikes in this comparison, it is not possible to add one...
Megamo 12" GO, a big brand balance bike from the youngest age

When your child starts toddling with confidence and casts envious looks at big brother's bike, it's time to think about a balance bike. The Megamo 12" GO is in our comparison the benchmark of big brands for the little ones (2 to 5 years old, which corresponds on average to a height between 85 and 105 cm, unless you've given him too much soup). Megamo obliges, the frame is aluminum, which immediately sets this Megamo apart from the steel balance bike found in a garage sale: lighter, therefore easier to handle for little legs that push, and especially less prone to rust after Wednesday afternoon session in Norman rain. Finally, the last asset of this Megamo balance bike: it is equipped from purchase with a rear rim brake.
Fabrickbike Mini Classic, the best balance bike for design
| Feature | Details |

| Recommended age | 2 to 5 years |
| Frame | Steel |
| Weight | N/A |
| Brake | No |
There are balance bikes that teach you to pedal, and there is one that teaches you how to make others jealous at the playground. The FabricBike Mini Classic clearly belongs to the second category, and that's exactly why it’s here. In a market where most kids’ pedal-free bikes look like plastic toys from a surprise pack, it stands out with a vintage design that might almost make you want to borrow it.Its frame is made of steel, downside: it's heavier but cheaper and it gives the whole structure a robustness that should, in theory, survive the repeated falls of a child aged 2 to 5 years (let's rather say repeated falls of a 2 to 3 year old with the energy of a 7 year old). Then you find 12-inch wheels with inflatable all-terrain tires, which allows you to ride as well on park gravel as on the living room parquet floor (well, we'll let you take responsibility for this last option). Add that both the seat and the handlebars are adjustable, which is frankly welcome when you know how fast a child of this age grows taller.
Rebel Kidz Air Classic, the best cheap balance bike
To finish this selection of the best balance bikes, we chose a model from the German brand Rebel Kidz, specialist of balance bikes. Here, you won’t find a Lefty fork, an aluminum frame, or tires worthy of an adult mountain bike but a much simpler balance bike. And that’s what convinced us. Indeed, the Classic Air is THE ideal low-budget balance bike with a tubular steel frame resistant to potential future falls, as well as ergonomic handlebars. Moreover, unlike some competitors, this balance bike aims to be adjustable by offering the possibility to adjust the size of the seat but also and above all the height of the handlebars. In short, a perfect choice to accompany little cyclists in style thanks to this magnificent design, without breaking the bank for mom and dad. However, beware of the 12.5" wheel size which is not very common in France.
