Brembo GR-PRO: The auto/moto racing giant arrives on the slopes, and it’s going to bite hard

When you hear "Brembo," motorsports fans immediately think of brutal braking in MotoGP or Formula 1 single-seaters stopping on a two-euro coin. Well, hold on tight to your handlebars, because the Italian brand with over 1000 world titles is officially staking its claim in MTB from July 2026. After drooling paddocks in the DH World Cup on the Specialized Gravity team bikes, Brembo is finally unleashing the beast to the general public: the GR-PRO. A complete MTB braking ecosystem, built for intense all-mountain riding, pure downhill, and the eMTBs that need to be tamed at the bottom of the slope with their extra weight.

Not just a part, a complete system
Where some are content to sell you a caliper here and a lever there, the Italian engineers thought big. The GR-PRO is an ecosystem where everything has been developed together to perfectly match: master cylinder, caliper, rotors, pads, hoses, and even the oil. The goal isn’t just to throw you over the handlebars with raw brutal power. The real grail from racing is absolute control, modulation, and consistency that never falters, from the first brake to the bottom of the trail.
The Master Cylinder: Custom-fit at your fingertips
At the cockpit, you get a master cylinder with a long lever paired with a small 9 mm piston, the perfect recipe for a finely tuned feel. But the real feat is customization, with the promise of having six brakes in one. You can adjust the lever ratio in three positions: S for a long travel and soft feel, M for the compromise, and H for an ultra-short, firm lumberjack-like feedback. To shine on chairlifts, know that a certain Loïc Bruni runs an S setting front and rear. Softness comes in handy when you’re riding at Mach 2!
Add to that a 40-click reach adjustment that you can manipulate even with thick gloves, and a patented 7-position free stroke adjustment to manage the pad engagement point with surgical precision. In short, it’s impossible not to find your perfect setup.
The Caliper: The Engine Room That Keeps a Cool Head
Diving down towards the rotor, you come across a superb caliper forged in two pieces, with hidden assembly screws for an ultra-clean look and rigidity that doesn’t bend under load. Inside, four large 18 mm pistons handle sending the power through. Brembo went all out on temperature management: the pistons are thermally insulated and the seal design ensures the pads return perfectly into place. No more rotors rubbing on their own or levers that stiffen unexpectedly halfway through the run.
Rotors, hoses, and fluid: So it brakes even in hell
For the sauce to come together, you need good ingredients. The stainless steel rotors, generous with their 2.3 mm thickness, come in 200 and 220 mm sizes. They feature an 18 mm wide braking track and a spoke design directly inspired by motorcycles to efficiently dissipate heat and absorb heavy impacts. On the pads side, the compound is semi-metallic, chosen after punishing more than 30 different recipes in tests with the Specialized team.
To connect it all without energy loss, Brembo opted for aviation braided steel hoses with a PTFE core that don’t swell a bit even under intense pressure. And for the sauce to be perfect, you need a good house mineral oil whose viscosity stays rock solid, even if you make the rotors glow blue and the temperature climbs over 130 degrees.
Breaking the piggy bank?
The complete GR-PRO kit will arrive in Europe in July 2026. The base pack is ready to ride: you’ll find the two master cylinders, the calipers pre-filled, the aviation hoses, the mineral oil, replacement pads to be prepared, and the hardware. Be aware, the rotors and bleed kit will be sold separately.
Clearly, Brembo isn’t here just to make an appearance but to set a new ultra-premium standard on our bikes. If you’re looking for the ultimate weapon to save your hard-fought end-of-runs with a big smile, you’ll have to make a little space on your handlebar.
